Answers to common queries

Does pxlz.org have a bookmarklet?
Yes, pxlz.org has a fantastic bookmarklet. You can find further details on the instructions page.

I get a message that the URL I'm trying to shorten is listed as spam. What can I do about this?
We use a 3rd party blacklist to determine domains that appear frequently in, or may send, spam email. This helps to prevent abuse of pxlz.org by spammers. Sites may sometimes be listed in error, but I don't have the time or resources to verify exactly how domains are being used myself. You can use the lookup tool at http://www.surbl.org/ to check whether domains are on this blacklist. If they are listed and you believe it's in error, you should alert the owners/administrators of that domain so that they can request delisting.

I have a suggestion that pxlz.org should add statistics/tracking for shortened URLs.
This is something that's been suggested many times and that we'll continue to think about in the future. There are two main reasons that pxlz.org doesn't do this at the moment, the first being that one of the site's main draws is its simplicity and we don't want to add too much advanced functionality that might clutter the interface and confuse novice users. The second is that pxlz.org is designed to support heavy use and large numbers of shortened URLs - tracking these statistics would require writing to our database each time a shortened URL is accessed. This currently happens 50 million+ times each month, so adding this feature would greatly hurt performance and/or increase running costs.

I have a problem when using the pxlz.org bookmarklet.
Please try again with the latest version of the bookmarklet before reporting any issues. There were a couple of bugs with the old version of the bookmarklet and special characters in URLs which should be corrected now.

Why was automatic copying to the clipboard removed?
This feature relied upon the Adobe Flash plug-in (the only way to do this copying in a browser independent way). Due to changes to the Flash security model from Flash 10, doing this was no longer allowed without users explicitly pressing a button, so it stopped working for people as they upgraded Flash anyway. I decided it wasn't really worth implementing a button to do this in Flash since it's just as easy to press ctrl+c or click a copy option in your browser anyway, so I just removed this functionality entirely. I'm not happy about losing this feature, but sadly this was the only convenient way to provide it. At least removing it entirely has the slight benefit that Flash is no longer used on the site, so users without it installed should have fewer issues.
